What kids do

“Read each sentence. Draw a picture to show what it says.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. 1. A ship has a big red flag.
  2. 2. A chick sits on a rock.
  3. 3. A whale has a fish on its back.
  4. 4. Three moths sit on a shell.

Teacher tip

Ask kids to underline the digraphs before they draw.

How to use it

  • Say each blend slowly, then quickly, so kids hear both sounds.
  • Highlight the digraph or blend in each word before reading.
  • Say every word on the sheet together before kids start, stretching the sounds.

Watch for

Kids who drop one sound of a blend, like “fog” for frog. Ask them to stretch the word.

Talk about it

  • Can you think of another word with this blend?
  • Can you think of another word with the same sound?
