What kids do

“Divide. Think: what times the divisor makes the big number?”

Sample problems

  • 40 ÷ 8 =
  • 90 ÷ 10 =
  • 18 ÷ 6 =
  • 30 ÷ 10 =
  • 42 ÷ 6 =
  • 35 ÷ 7 =

Teacher tip

Pair it with the 6 to 10 multiplication sheet in the same week. The facts mirror each other.

How to use it

  • Remind kids that every division fact has a multiplication partner, and say a few pairs out loud first.
  • Let kids use counters and paper plates for the first few problems.
  • Do the first problem together under a document camera, then let kids finish on their own.

Watch for

Remainders bigger than the divisor. That means one more group fits.

Talk about it

  • Is it sharing (how many each) or grouping (how many groups)?
  • Which problem was the hardest? What made it hard?

Take it further

Have kids make their own division wheel or fact triangle for a partner.
