What kids do

“Plan a writing workshop day: a short mini-lesson, writing time with conferences and a share at the end.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Mini-lesson teaching point (10 minutes)
  2. Writing time: conferences
  3. Small group and focus
  4. Share: who and why

Teacher tip

Keep the mini-lesson to ten minutes so kids have most of the time to write.

How to use it

  • Fill it in digitally or by hand, and keep a copy in your sub folder.
  • Plan a week ahead so you can gather materials in time.
  • Fill one in with the class the first time so kids see what a finished one looks like.

Watch for

Plans so packed there is no room for reteaching. Leave a flex block each week.

Talk about it

  • How will I know they learned it?
  • How can this help you be ready to learn?
