What kids do

“Your teacher writes a sentence on the board. Copy it, then take it apart like a word detective.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Copy the sentence of the day.
  2. 4. An adjective:
  3. Change one word to make a new sentence.
  4. Draw your new sentence.

Teacher tip

Write a sentence about a class event or a student so kids feel connected to it.

How to use it

  • Keep the format the same each day so kids work on their own.
  • Play quiet music while kids work to set a calm tone.
  • Print it on colored paper so kids and helpers can spot it quickly.

Watch for

Problems kids miss every day. Those skills need a mini-lesson, not more practice.

Talk about it

  • What did you remember from last week?
  • How can this help you be ready to learn?

Take it further

Collect the hardest questions and review them on Friday.
