What kids do

“Read a book at home. Tell what happened at the beginning, middle and end, then retell it to a grown-up.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Draw your favorite part.
  2. I retold the story to:

Teacher tip

Have kids retell their story to a partner the next day.

How to use it

  • Explain the sheet to families at back-to-school night or in a note.
  • Keep the sheet in the same folder every day so kids know where to find it.
  • Fill one in with the class the first time so kids see what a finished one looks like.

Watch for

Kids without support or a quiet place at home. Offer a time to finish at school.

Talk about it

  • What do you do when you get stuck?
  • What is one thing that went well this week?
