What kids do

“Cut out the cards and pull a new greeting each day. Model it first, then let the class try it around the circle.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Bump fists with the friend next to you and say “Good morning,
  2. Wave to someone across the circle and say their name. That friend waves to someone new.
  3. Hook pinkies with a partner, shake twice and say good morning.
  4. Wiggle your fingers
  5. Teach the sign for hello.
  6. Greet each friend with the sign and a smile.
  7. Say a friend’s name, then the whole class cheers it twice: “Ma-ya!
  8. Greet a friend in your best animal voice: “Good moo-rning, ___!”

Teacher tip

Let the student of the day pick a greeting card from the pile to start the meeting.

How to use it

  • Model each greeting or game before kids try it.
  • Use the same order each day: greeting, share, activity, message.
  • Introduce the sheet once, model it, then make it part of a routine so kids know what to expect.

Watch for

Greetings with touch. Always give a no-touch option, like a wave or an air high five.

Talk about it

  • What did you learn about a classmate today?
  • How can this help you be ready to learn?

Take it further

Invite a family member or the principal to join one meeting.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
