What kids do

“Plan a problem-solving math lesson: launch the task, let students explore, then bring them together to compare strategies.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. The task or problem:
  2. Launch: how I will introduce the problem (5 minutes)
  3. Questions to ask while they work
  4. Discuss: who shares, in this order

Teacher tip

Write down which students used each strategy so you can call on them in the discussion.

How to use it

  • Fill it in digitally or by hand, and keep a copy in your sub folder.
  • Plan a week ahead so you can gather materials in time.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector and use a dry-erase marker to reuse it all year.

Watch for

Plans so packed there is no room for reteaching. Leave a flex block each week.

Talk about it

  • What will I do for students who need more help?
  • What is one thing that went well this week?
