What kids do

“Cut out the cards. Glue each one in the box where it belongs. Expected means it helps everyone learn and feel safe.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Run in the classroom
  2. Grab a friend’s book
  3. Leave trash on the floor
  4. Walk in the hallway
  5. Listen when others talk
  6. Shout across the room
  7. Share the markers

Teacher tip

Act out a few choices before kids sort, and let the class decide expected or unexpected.

How to use it

  • Act out examples of following and not following each expectation.
  • Revisit expectations after long breaks and before special days.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector and use a dry-erase marker to reuse it all year.

Watch for

Expectations that look different at home. Talk about how rules change by place.

Talk about it

  • How do rules help everyone learn?
  • What is one thing that went well this week?
