What kids do

“Cut out the letters. Is it a vowel or a consonant? Glue it where it belongs.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. The vowels are A, E, I, O and U. Every other letter is a consonant.

Teacher tip

Sing a vowel song before kids sort the letters.

How to use it

  • Have kids sort the cards on their desk before gluing anything.
  • Check the sort quickly before kids glue.
  • Use it as a center, an early finisher choice, an indoor recess activity or a sub day page.

Watch for

Kids who glue too soon. Have them check the sort with a partner first.

Talk about it

  • Can you think of one more thing for each group?
  • What was the trickiest part? How did you get past it?

Take it further

Have kids add a card of their own to each group.
