What kids do

“Cut out the shapes. Count the sides on each one. Glue it under 3 sides, 4 sides or more than 4.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Count the straight sides with your finger. A turned shape still has the same number of sides.

Teacher tip

Have kids count each side with a finger before they sort.

How to use it

  • Keep scissors and glue sticks in a bin at each table.
  • Read the cards aloud for kids who need help.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector so kids can play again with a dry-erase marker.

Watch for

Cutting that takes up the whole time. Pre-cut cards for kids who need it.

Talk about it

  • Can you think of one more thing for each group?
  • What was the trickiest part? How did you get past it?

Take it further

Use the same cards as a center game without glue.
