What kids do

“The caller names some coins. Count the money (penny 1¢, nickel 5¢, dime 10¢, quarter 25¢) and cover the amount. Four in a row wins!”

Teacher tip

Have play coins out so kids can count each handful.

How to use it

  • Play a practice round first so kids learn the routine.
  • Let a student be the caller once kids know the game.
  • Use it as a center, an early finisher choice, an indoor recess activity or a sub day page.

Watch for

Callers going too fast. Pause long enough for everyone to find the answer.

Talk about it

  • Which squares were easy to find?
  • What strategy did you use?
