Pokémon fan art

How to draw Pokémon

Pokémon are built from round, simple shapes, which makes them perfect for young artists. Start with Pikachu, then try Charmander, Bulbasaur and Eevee. Each draw-along video goes one step at a time. These are unofficial fan art lessons made for practice and fun.

Questions about fan art

Is it OK for kids to draw Pokémon?

Yes. Copying favorite characters is how many cartoonists learned to draw. Fan art is great practice; just don’t sell drawings of characters Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company owns.

How do kids follow a Pokémon drawing video?

Pause the video after each step and copy just that part. Most characters start with a head shape and guide lines, then the eyes, then the details.

Are these official tutorials?

No. They are unofficial fan art lessons by Kevin Coulston and are not connected to Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company.

What age are the Pokémon lessons for?

Kids about 6 and up can follow the videos by pausing after each step. Younger kids do well drawing alongside a grown-up.

Where are more fan art lessons?

The fan art page has every series in one place: the Ninja Turtles, Mario characters, Pokémon and Dog Man.
