What kids do

“The unicorn woke up and her horn was gone! Plan your story, then write it.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Where is it hiding?
  2. How does she get it back?
  3. Write your story
  4. One morning, the unicorn woke up and her horn was gone!

Teacher tip

Brainstorm suspects together first (a goat, a dragon, a little sister) so every kid starts with an idea.

How to use it

  • Have kids draw a quick sketch to plan before they write.
  • Share a short example story you wrote from the same prompt.
  • Keep a word wall or a word bank in reach so spelling does not stop the ideas.

Watch for

Kids copying a friend’s idea. Brainstorm three ideas together so everyone has options.

Talk about it

  • How did your story end? Could it end another way?
  • Where else do writers use this skill?

Take it further

Bind finished stories into a class anthology for the library corner.
