What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Each character has a fixed mindset thought. Write a growth mindset talk-back in the empty bubble.
  2. “I’m not good at drawing.”
  3. “Everyone gets it
  4. “I made a mistake, so I quit.”
  5. “This is too hard for me.”
  6. A fixed thought I sometimes have:

Teacher tip

Ask kids to read their talk-back in a confident voice.

How to use it

  • Celebrate a “mistake of the day” where the class learns from an error.
  • Connect it to a real hard task, like a tricky math page.
  • Let kids choose to share or keep their answers private. Both are fine.

Watch for

Praise for being “smart”. Try praising the effort or the strategy instead.

Talk about it

  • Why are mistakes part of learning?
  • How might someone else see it differently?

Take it further

Keep a learning journal where kids note one thing that was hard and how they kept going.
