What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. At school, I am learning…
  2. At home, I am learning…
  3. In sports or play, I am learning…
  4. In art or music, I am learning…
  5. With friends, I am learning…
  6. Someday I want to learn…
  7. The one I will practice first:

Teacher tip

Revisit the web later in the year and check off the “yets” kids reached.

How to use it

  • Celebrate a “mistake of the day” where the class learns from an error.
  • Connect it to a real hard task, like a tricky math page.
  • Use it during morning meeting or right after recess, when the topic is fresh.

Watch for

Praise for being “smart”. Try praising the effort or the strategy instead.

Talk about it

  • Why are mistakes part of learning?
  • How might someone else see it differently?

Take it further

Keep a learning journal where kids note one thing that was hard and how they kept going.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
