What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. How to play: a grown-up hides one object in a bag. Reach in without looking. Use only your sense of touch, then make a guess. Take it out to check!
  2. How many did you guess right?

Teacher tip

Use socks as mystery bags, with a pinecone, a sponge or a spoon inside.

How to use it

  • Set up a senses table with things to look at, listen to, smell, taste and touch.
  • Model describing words aloud before kids write: bumpy, crunchy, sour, loud.
  • Let partners compare answers and settle any differences with a book or a video.

Watch for

Tasting in class: check for allergies and get the okay from families first.

Talk about it

  • Which sense helps keep you safe?
  • Where have you seen this outside of school?

Take it further

Play a mystery sound game with sounds recorded around the school.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
