Printed on the sheet:

  1. 1. Count the hearts.
  2. 2. Circle every S: S T S P S
  3. 3. What letter comes after A?
  4. 4. What letter comes before D?
  5. 5. Trace the letters. Then write your own.
  6. 6. Fill in the missing letters.
  7. 7. Draw something that starts with S. (sun? snake? sock?)

Teacher tip

Have kids say the S sound each time they find or trace an S.

How to use it

  • Have the page on desks before kids arrive so they can start right away.
  • Go over the answers together at the start of the lesson.
  • Introduce the sheet once, model it, then make it part of a routine so kids know what to expect.

Watch for

Kids who arrive late and feel rushed. Let them finish at another time.

Talk about it

  • What did you remember from last week?
  • How can this help you be ready to learn?

Take it further

Let early finishers write their own problem for tomorrow’s page.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
