What kids do

“Post this sheet and let students sign up for their first, second and third choice jobs for the month.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Tip: give each student one of their top choices before anyone gets a job twice.

Teacher tip

Give kids their first choice when you can, and keep track so everyone gets a turn.

How to use it

  • Post the job chart where kids can see it from their seats.
  • Keep jobs simple and real so kids feel useful.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector and use a dry-erase marker to reuse it all year.

Watch for

Jobs that take kids away from learning. Keep them short.

Talk about it

  • Which job would you like to try? Why?
  • Why do you think we use this in our classroom?

Take it further

Have kids train the next helper before jobs rotate.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
