Teacher tip

Have a thesaurus out for kids who get stuck, since there is no word bank.

How to use it

  • Model how to read a clue and count the boxes before writing.
  • Start with the clues kids are surest about, then use crossing letters for the rest.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector so kids can play again with a dry-erase marker.

Watch for

Words that do not fit the boxes. Have kids count letters before writing.

Talk about it

  • Which word was new to you?
  • What was the trickiest part? How did you get past it?

Take it further

Have kids write their own clues for a few of the words.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
