What kids do

“Cut out the cards. Is it a letter or a number? Glue it where it belongs.”

Teacher tip

Talk about the look-alikes, like S and 5, before kids sort.

How to use it

  • Have kids sort the cards on their desk before gluing anything.
  • Check the sort quickly before kids glue.
  • Use it as a center, an early finisher choice, an indoor recess activity or a sub day page.

Watch for

Kids who glue too soon. Have them check the sort with a partner first.

Talk about it

  • Were any cards tricky? Why?
  • What would you change to make it harder?

Take it further

Have kids add a card of their own to each group.
