What kids do

“Solve the division problem in each square. Color the square the color for its answer.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Tip: color lightly with crayons or colored pencils. What picture did you make?

Teacher tip

Remind kids to think of the multiplication fact for each division fact.

How to use it

  • Go over the color key together before kids start.
  • Have kids solve each square before coloring it.
  • Slide it into a sheet protector so kids can play again with a dry-erase marker.

Watch for

Kids coloring without solving. Ask them to show you one answer.

Talk about it

  • How did you check your answers?
  • What was the trickiest part? How did you get past it?

Take it further

Have kids design their own color-by key on grid paper.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
