What kids do

“Read each sentence. Which picture does it tell about? Write that picture’s letter in the box.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Which picture? Write its letter.
  2. The bee is little.
  3. I see a big lion.
  4. The robot can jump up.
  5. Look at the red strawberry!

Teacher tip

Ask kids to explain which word in the sentence helped them match.

How to use it

  • Use it in a literacy center with a partner who checks the reading.
  • Play it again later in the week with a different partner. Repeat play builds speed.
  • Keep a sight word ring of flash cards so kids can check spellings.

Watch for

Kids who read the words in order from memory. Point to words out of order to check.

Talk about it

  • Which words look alike? How do you tell them apart?
  • Which word was the hardest to read? Why?

Take it further

Ask kids to use two of the words in one sentence and draw it.
