What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. A force is a push or a pull. A push moves something away from you. A pull moves something toward you.
  2. 1. Write each action in the right column.
  3. 2. Draw a push you did today.
  4. 3. Draw a pull you did today.

Teacher tip

Act out each action. Doors are fun: some you push and some you pull.

How to use it

  • Roll balls across carpet and tile to feel friction.
  • Drop two objects at once and ask which lands first.
  • Let partners compare answers and settle any differences with a book or a video.

Watch for

Heavier objects don’t fall faster (without air in the way). Try it with two balls.

Talk about it

  • What would happen with no friction?
  • What did you notice that surprised you?

Take it further

Hold a toy car race on different surfaces and graph the results.
