What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Bug hunt rules: look under leaves, rocks and logs. Use your eyes and a magnifying glass. Do not touch bugs that sting or bite, and put every rock back where you found it.

Teacher tip

Look under rocks and logs, and remind kids to put everything back.

How to use it

  • Go on a bug hunt with magnifying glasses before the sheet.
  • Count legs on pictures together: insects have six, spiders have eight.
  • Let partners compare answers and settle any differences with a book or a video.

Watch for

Teach kids to look, not touch, and to put bugs back where they found them.

Talk about it

  • Why are bugs important?
  • Where have you seen this outside of school?
