Teacher tip

Model the paperclip spinner once. Kids pick it up quickly.

How to use it

  • Read every word on the sheet out loud together before kids start.
  • Use it in a literacy center with a partner who checks the reading.
  • Play it again later in the week with a different partner. Repeat play builds speed.

Watch for

Kids who guess from the first letter. Ask them to look at the whole word, all the way to the end.

Talk about it

  • Which word was the hardest to read? Why?
  • Can you find one of these words in a book from the class library?

Take it further

Hide the week’s words around the room and send kids on a word hunt with a clipboard.
