What kids do

“Read each sentence. Draw a picture to show what it says.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. 1. I see a big red sun.
  2. 2. We can play in the sand.
  3. 3. The dog is in my bed.
  4. 4. Look at the green dino!

Teacher tip

Ask kids to point to each word as they read the sentence before drawing.

How to use it

  • Send a copy home so families can play too.
  • Read every word on the sheet out loud together before kids start.
  • Use it in a literacy center with a partner who checks the reading.

Watch for

Kids who guess from the first letter. Ask them to look at the whole word, all the way to the end.

Talk about it

  • Which word was the hardest to read? Why?
  • Can you find one of these words in a book from the class library?

Take it further

Hide the week’s words around the room and send kids on a word hunt with a clipboard.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
