What kids do

“Read each question. Think! Circle yes or no.”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Can a bird fly?
  2. Is an old shoe new?
  3. Do you say thank you for a gift?
  4. Would a cat live under the sea?
  5. Can you open a door?
  6. Does red mean go?
  7. Can you take a bath in a cup?

Teacher tip

Ask kids to explain one answer with a reason.

How to use it

  • Read every word on the sheet out loud together before kids start.
  • Use it in a literacy center with a partner who checks the reading.
  • Play it again later in the week with a different partner. Repeat play builds speed.

Watch for

Kids who guess from the first letter. Ask them to look at the whole word, all the way to the end.

Talk about it

  • Which words look alike? How do you tell them apart?
  • Which word was the hardest to read? Why?

Take it further

Ask kids to use two of the words in one sentence and draw it.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
