What kids do

“Only one word in each row is spelled right. Circle it!”

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Now write the hardest word in your best writing:

Teacher tip

Ask kids to circle the letter that is wrong in each misspelling.

How to use it

  • Play it again later in the week with a different partner. Repeat play builds speed.
  • Keep a sight word ring of flash cards so kids can check spellings.
  • Send a copy home so families can play too.

Watch for

Kids who read the words in order from memory. Point to words out of order to check.

Talk about it

  • Which words look alike? How do you tell them apart?
  • Which word was the hardest to read? Why?

Take it further

Ask kids to use two of the words in one sentence and draw it.

US Letter, prints well in black and white. Free for home and classroom use: print as many copies as you need.
