What kids do
Printed on the sheet:
- Do it: fill seven clear cups with warm water. Stir one spoonful of a different thing into each cup for one minute, then look. If you cannot see it any more, it dissolved.
- I predict it will dissolve: yes or no
- Did it dissolve?
- Where did the things that dissolved go?

Teacher tip
Use warm water and stir the same number of times for each test.
How to use it
- Stir salt, sand and sugar into clear cups of water before the sheet.
- Show a physical change (cutting paper) and a chemical one (a fizzing tablet).
- Let partners compare answers and settle any differences with a book or a video.
Watch for
Dissolved doesn’t mean gone. The salt is still in the water.
Talk about it
- Can this change be undone?
- What did you notice that surprised you?
