What kids do

Printed on the sheet:

  1. Bark rubbing: hold the paper on the trunk and rub with a crayon.
  2. Draw one of its leaves (or needles).
  3. Around the trunk (wrap a string, then measure it)

Teacher tip

Choose trees close to school so you can visit in every season.

How to use it

  • Collect leaves on a walk before the sheet.
  • Bring in a slice of a log to count the rings.
  • Let partners compare answers and settle any differences with a book or a video.

Watch for

Pine needles are leaves too.

Talk about it

  • How does your tree change through the year?
  • Where have you seen this outside of school?
