How to Draw a Pizza Slice: Featuring a Character from My Book
I’m excited to share a brand-new video tutorial with you today: How to Draw a Pizza Slice! This fun little drawing lesson features one of the cute food characters from my book How to Draw: Mermaids, Unicorns, and Other Cute Stuff. It’s a perfect activity for kids who love silly, imaginative drawings—and pizza!
In this tutorial, I walk you through each step of drawing a cartoon pizza slice character. This pizza slice has big expressive eyes, a happy smile with two cute little teeth, and delicious toppings like pepperoni, cheese, and black olives. Like all the characters in my books, this one is 100% hand drawn by me and designed to be easy to follow for artists of all ages.
About the Book: How to Draw: Mermaids, Unicorns, and Other Cute Stuff
If you enjoyed learning how to draw a pizza slice, you’re going to love the book it’s featured in. How to Draw: Mermaids, Unicorns, and Other Cute Stuff is a 100% hand-drawn step-by-step drawing book that includes a wide variety of fun and silly characters to create. The characters range from fantasy creatures like mermaids and unicorns to food characters like cupcakes, fruit, and of course—pizza!
Each drawing in the book is broken down into six easy-to-follow steps. I designed it so even young kids (as young as 5 or 6) could enjoy the process without getting frustrated. That said, I’ve also heard from plenty of older kids, teens, and even adults who love using the book as a relaxing creative outlet.
You don’t need to be a skilled artist to enjoy this book. You just need some paper, a pencil, and a little time to enjoy drawing characters that are cute, silly, and a little weird in the best way.
What Makes These Books Different?
The How to Draw series is all about learning through fun and repetition. Here are a few things that make this series special:
- Every page is hand drawn by me. No stock art, no clip art, no AI-generated characters. Just good old-fashioned pencil and ink.
- Each book includes 50 characters, each broken down into 6 simple steps.
- Themes are kid-friendly and fun, ranging from food to fantasy, animals to aliens.
- The instructions are visual, which makes it easy for kids who are still learning to read.
- It encourages creativity beyond just copying—once you learn how to draw a pizza slice or a unicorn, you can add your own twist to it!
If you or your kids are trying to build drawing confidence, this series is a great entry point. Learning how to draw a pizza slice is just the start—the book includes 49 more characters just as fun and imaginative.

More Than Just Food
While today we focused on how to draw a pizza slice, this book isn’t just about food. Some of the other characters you’ll find inside include:
- A magical mermaid
- A flying unicorn
- A silly narwhal
- A donut with a mustache
- A smiling cactus
It’s a mix of fantasy, animals, and snacks—a bit of everything kids love to draw. And because the steps are so easy to follow, it works well whether you’re a parent looking for quiet-time activities, a teacher adding creativity to the classroom, or a kid who just loves to draw.

Why This Book Works for Kids
After creating over 70 drawing books, I’ve learned a few things about what makes a drawing book work for young artists:
- Kids love drawing characters with personality.
- They want results fast—which is why each drawing is broken down into just 6 steps.
- Visual directions keep them engaged longer than text-heavy lessons.
- And most of all, they want drawing to be fun.
The pizza slice in this video and book is a great example. It’s goofy, expressive, and simple enough to finish in one sitting. And once kids learn how to draw a pizza slice, they start to feel confident enough to try other characters, or even invent their own.

This lesson, like most of my tutorials, breaks things down into simple shapes so you can focus on enjoying the process of drawing instead of worrying about making it perfect. That’s something I emphasize a lot in my books and videos—drawing is supposed to be fun!
