How to Draw A Candy Corn Monster – A Fun Halloween Drawing Tutorial for Kids

If your kids love Halloween and drawing cute, silly monsters, they’re going to love this new tutorial! In my latest video, I show you how to draw a Candy Corn Monster, one of the fun and spooky characters straight from my new book How to Draw: Spooky Stuff for Halloween. This easy, step-by-step video is perfect for kids who love monsters, candy, and creative fun.

This adorable Candy Corn Monster has all the classic candy corn colors—white on top, orange in the middle, and yellow on the bottom—but with a twist! It has a goofy grin, a big eye, and a spooky personality. It’s one of those characters that’s just as fun to draw as it is to imagine walking around on Halloween night.

In this post, I’ll talk a little about the new video, the book it’s from, and how this project fits into my larger Art Books for Kids series.

About the Book: How to Draw: Spooky Stuff for Halloween

This video is based on one of the 50 original lessons from my newest Halloween Drawing Book, How to Draw: Spooky Stuff for Halloween. The book includes all kinds of Halloween favorites—Skeletons, Vampires, Witches, Trick-or-Treaters, Mummies, Ghosts, Werewolves, Candy Monsters, and more!

Every character in the book, including the Candy Corn Monster, is designed to be fun, approachable, and full of personality. Each page shows six easy-to-follow steps that guide kids from a blank page to a finished drawing.

Like all my books, How to Draw: Spooky Stuff for Halloween features completely hand-drawn art—no AI, no clip art, and no shortcuts. I draw every character myself using pencil and ink, creating designs that are kid-friendly and fun to learn from. My goal is to make drawing exciting and rewarding for kids while keeping the art original and full of life.

When kids learn how to draw a Candy Corn Monster, they’re not just copying lines—they’re learning to think like artists. They begin to see shapes, balance, and character design in a new way. That’s what makes these books and videos more than just art activities—they’re learning tools wrapped in creativity and fun.

Why Kids Love Drawing Monsters

There’s something special about monsters—especially ones that are cute or funny rather than scary. Drawing monsters lets kids stretch their imagination and play with ideas that don’t have to be realistic. When they learn how to draw a Candy Corn Monster, they’re not just recreating something—they’re inventing their own little world.

I often hear from parents that their kids start coming up with their own monsters after completing one or two drawings from my books. Maybe their Candy Corn Monster gets a friend, or maybe they invent a new Halloween creature entirely! That’s the best part about making art—it sparks imagination.

The How to Draw: Spooky Stuff for Halloween book is full of opportunities like that. Each lesson gives kids a foundation they can build on, so they can keep creating long after they’ve finished a single page.

And because every page follows a six-step process, kids can see exactly how each drawing takes shape. This makes it easy for them to follow along and feel proud of what they’ve made.

Available in Trace and Grid Versions Too

If your child prefers tracing or using grids to build their drawings, this Halloween theme is also available in two other formats:

  • Trace Then Color: Spooky Stuff for Halloween – This version is perfect for younger kids who are still building their motor skills. It includes the same characters from the How to Draw book but formatted as tracing and coloring pages.
  • Draw by Grid: Spooky Stuff for Halloween – This version is great for older kids who want to improve their accuracy and proportions. The grid method helps them focus on details while still being creative and having fun.

These alternate versions make the Halloween theme accessible to artists of all ages and skill levels. Whether they trace, grid, or draw step-by-step, every child can enjoy the fun of learning how to draw a Candy Corn Monster and many other spooky, silly characters.

Watch the Video: How to Draw A Candy Corn Monster

In the new tutorial, I take you step-by-step through how to draw a Candy Corn Monster from start to finish. Like all of my How to Draw lessons, this one begins with simple shapes—triangles, circles, and lines—so even younger kids can follow along. Then we slowly build on those shapes to create a cute cartoon creature that’s part candy, part monster, and completely fun to draw.

I designed the Candy Corn Monster to be friendly and full of personality. It’s not scary—it’s silly! The video keeps things easy to understand and moves at a comfortable pace so that any young artist can keep up. By the end of the video, you’ll have a completed Candy Corn Monster drawing that’s ready to color and show off.

If your kids are new to drawing or just looking for something festive to try this Halloween season, this video is a perfect starting point. It’s one of many Halloween-themed lessons in my new book, How to Draw: Spooky Stuff for Halloween.

What Our Customers Are Saying

“The author really does a great job demonstrating how easy (and rewarding!) it can be to draw seemingly ordinary things you (and your little ones!) may feel too intimidated to try drawing without the step-by-step guide! Putting already-known shapes together and making something new and original is a fantastic way to learn! And recognizing that you can add your own twists and personality to your drawings makes all the difference. I think it’s a fun, original approach to building confidence for a lifelong hobby. I have the ebook copy, and can only imagine how great a physical copy would be!”

– Daenarah [Amazon Review]

“There are several of these fun books by this author. My kids and I have had a lot of fun with these. It’s a great activity to do as a family and see how they all turn out. Almost like a sip and paint but more of a juice box and draw.”

Allison B. [Amazon Review]

My kids can’t wait to start drawing these monsters in their illustrations! The many different moods of the monsters appeal to their different personalities. We love the many options, styles, and opportunities to expand upon the characters. Recommended for all ages!

– Kasey [Amazon Review]

“Kevin has put out many books on drawing and animation, and has such a great feel for HOW to explain the process. His art is so expressive and kid-friendly, but his real strength is in his ability to really explain and show how it’s done, making it accessible to kids and adults. I’m a firm believer that not everyone who “can do” can teach, but Kevin does both beautifully! Pick this up and watch kids have a blast making robots of all sorts, while learning great fundamental art skills at the same time!”

Tom R. [Amazon Review]

“My 5yo LOVES this book! The drawings are cute and the instructions are easy to follow along with. She gets a kick out of drawing muffin monsters and ketchup monsters and it actually keeps her pretty focused for long periods of time.”

– Monica [Amazon Review]

“This is a fantastic book for kids who love art, cartoons, comic books, or just having fun! There are a lot of characters to choose from, and really easy step-by-step instructions to follow. You child will have a blast drawing these fun, silly characters! And just in time for Easter baskets!”

– Bestmomever [Amazon Review]

“This is a very good book for kids that want to learn to draw, my sons love it and Kevin does a great job of making drawing fun and not intimidating. Highly recommended for the long summer hours!”
