Introducing My New Cartoon People Coloring Book

I’m excited to share the newest addition to my Trace Then Color series: Trace Then Color: Cartoon People Coloring Book. This book has been such a fun project to create, and it’s designed to inspire kids to draw, trace, and color while having fun with a wide variety of cartoon characters.

The Cartoon People Coloring Book offers kids a chance to explore both everyday people and imaginative figures, helping them practice artistic skills while also encouraging creative storytelling.

What Makes This Cartoon People Coloring Book Unique

Unlike a traditional coloring book, this one combines tracing and coloring in every page. Kids begin by tracing over the outlines of each character, which helps them practice drawing skills and improve hand-eye coordination. Once the tracing is done, they can move on to coloring the characters however they like.

Inside the book, kids will find cartoon boys, girls, men, and women, alongside more adventurous characters such as:

  • A wizard with a flowing robe
  • A daring pirate
  • A clever burglar
  • A space-exploring astronaut
  • A magician ready to perform tricks

This mix of everyday people and imaginative roles keeps kids engaged and curious about what character they’ll get to work on next.

Trace and Color 50 Cartoon Characters

Why Kids Love the Trace Then Color Series

The Cartoon People Coloring Book is part of my larger Trace Then Color series, which includes other popular titles like Trace Then Color: Goofy Faces and Trace Then Color: Cartoon Dinosaurs. Each book in the series follows the same simple but effective process: trace first, then color.

Kids love this approach because it makes drawing approachable. Tracing gives them confidence right away, and coloring lets them add their own personal touch. The result is a balance of structure and creativity that makes art fun rather than intimidating.

Parents often tell me how much their kids enjoy this series because it provides a screen-free activity that sparks imagination. Teachers have also used the books in classrooms as an art-friendly way to keep kids engaged.

How Tracing Builds Skills

One of the most important aspects of the Cartoon People Coloring Book is that it teaches kids real drawing skills without them even realizing it. Tracing helps children understand proportions, shapes, and line control. It’s a stepping stone between coloring and freehand drawing.

By tracing characters like the astronaut or the magician, kids get used to following lines and curves. Over time, this practice makes it easier for them to draw their own characters from scratch. The coloring step then allows them to experiment with color choices and creativity.

All Artwork Is Hand-Drawn

Every illustration in the Cartoon People Coloring Book is hand-drawn by me, Kevin Coulston. I don’t use AI-generated art or stock images. Each character was designed to be fun, approachable, and easy to trace, with clear outlines and plenty of room for kids to experiment with colors.

I put a lot of care into balancing detail with simplicity, so the drawings are engaging without being overwhelming for young artists.

A Variety of Characters for Endless Fun

What I love most about this book is the variety of characters it includes. Kids can trace and color everyday cartoon people they can relate to, like boys and girls, but they also get to step into worlds of adventure and fantasy with pirates, wizards, and astronauts.

This variety not only makes the book more engaging, but it also sparks storytelling. A child might imagine their cartoon burglar sneaking into a bank, or their astronaut floating in space. Coloring turns into more than just filling in shapes — it becomes part of play and imagination.

Why a Cartoon People Coloring Book Is Perfect for Kids

Coloring books are already a favorite pastime for kids, but a Cartoon People Coloring Book that combines tracing and coloring offers something extra. It’s not just a way to pass the time — it’s a creative activity that also builds skills.

Here are just a few reasons parents and kids love this kind of book:

  • Confidence building: Tracing gives kids a clear starting point.
  • Skill development: Tracing improves fine motor skills, while coloring fosters creativity.
  • Imagination: Characters like wizards and astronauts encourage kids to invent stories.
  • Screen-free fun: It’s a creative activity that doesn’t require electronics.
  • Reusable inspiration: Even after finishing the book, kids can use what they’ve learned to draw their own people.

How Families Use the Series

I’ve heard from many families about how they use my Trace Then Color books. Some parents keep them in the car for long trips. Others use them as quiet-time activities at home. Teachers have shared that they’re great for early finishers in the classroom or as part of an art center.

The Cartoon People Coloring Book fits perfectly into all of these situations. Because the characters are so varied, kids stay interested and entertained no matter how many times they pick up the book.

The Goal Behind the Book

My goal in creating the Cartoon People Coloring Book is to inspire kids to enjoy art without feeling pressured. Too often, children are intimidated by blank pages or frustrated when their drawings don’t turn out the way they want. Tracing takes away that barrier by giving them a foundation to work from.

From there, coloring makes the artwork their own. Kids can decide if their pirate wears a blue coat, or if their astronaut’s suit has rainbow stripes. There’s no right or wrong — just creativity.

Part of a Growing Collection

This book is just one title in the growing Trace Then Color series. Each book explores a different theme, from silly faces to dinosaurs and now cartoon people. Parents and teachers often collect multiple books so kids can explore a wide range of characters.

If your child enjoys the Cartoon People Coloring Book, they’ll likely love the others in the series too. Every book follows the same proven formula: trace first, then color.

Final Thoughts

I’m thrilled to finally share Trace Then Color: Cartoon People Coloring Book. With its mix of everyday characters and imaginative figures, it offers something for every child. Whether your child is just starting to explore drawing or already loves coloring books, this is a fun and creative option that will keep them engaged.

As with all of my books, the art is hand-drawn and created with kids in mind. My hope is that this book gives young artists confidence, inspires their creativity, and becomes a favorite activity in your home, classroom, or on the go.

If you’ve been looking for a Cartoon People Coloring Book that combines tracing, coloring, and imaginative fun, I think this one will be a perfect fit.

What Our Customers Are Saying

“The author really does a great job demonstrating how easy (and rewarding!) it can be to draw seemingly ordinary things you (and your little ones!) may feel too intimidated to try drawing without the step-by-step guide! Putting already-known shapes together and making something new and original is a fantastic way to learn! And recognizing that you can add your own twists and personality to your drawings makes all the difference. I think it’s a fun, original approach to building confidence for a lifelong hobby. I have the ebook copy, and can only imagine how great a physical copy would be!”

– Daenarah [Amazon Review]

“There are several of these fun books by this author. My kids and I have had a lot of fun with these. It’s a great activity to do as a family and see how they all turn out. Almost like a sip and paint but more of a juice box and draw.”

Allison B. [Amazon Review]

My kids can’t wait to start drawing these monsters in their illustrations! The many different moods of the monsters appeal to their different personalities. We love the many options, styles, and opportunities to expand upon the characters. Recommended for all ages!

– Kasey [Amazon Review]

“Kevin has put out many books on drawing and animation, and has such a great feel for HOW to explain the process. His art is so expressive and kid-friendly, but his real strength is in his ability to really explain and show how it’s done, making it accessible to kids and adults. I’m a firm believer that not everyone who “can do” can teach, but Kevin does both beautifully! Pick this up and watch kids have a blast making robots of all sorts, while learning great fundamental art skills at the same time!”

Tom R. [Amazon Review]

“My 5yo LOVES this book! The drawings are cute and the instructions are easy to follow along with. She gets a kick out of drawing muffin monsters and ketchup monsters and it actually keeps her pretty focused for long periods of time.”

– Monica [Amazon Review]

“This is a fantastic book for kids who love art, cartoons, comic books, or just having fun! There are a lot of characters to choose from, and really easy step-by-step instructions to follow. You child will have a blast drawing these fun, silly characters! And just in time for Easter baskets!”

– Bestmomever [Amazon Review]

“This is a very good book for kids that want to learn to draw, my sons love it and Kevin does a great job of making drawing fun and not intimidating. Highly recommended for the long summer hours!”
